Audi revealed its latest SQ5 TDI model. Learn where this car sits in their product stack by checking out our nomenclature article here.
Powertrain & Performance
This powerful SUV is powered by V6 diesel which produces a tremendous 700 Nm of torque and 347 hp. Its power is available immediately thanks to a 48V mild hybrid system and an electrically powered compressor. It sends power to all four wheels, ensuring the Audi SQ5 TDI has a 0-100 km/h speed of just 5.1 seconds.
Engine
This is as powerful as Audi’s 3-litre V6 diesels currently get in production cars. To achieve this, modifications to the crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods and oil management had to be done.
It has not only a variable geometry turbocharger capable of 2.4 bar, but an electrically powered compressor that can spin up to 65,000 rpm in just 300 milliseconds to produce 1.4 bar of pressure.
And if all that wasn’t enough, the Mild Hybrid system assists in its own way, but this is mostly for energy efficiency purposes. It allows the vehicle to be driven with its engine off for short periods of time and can reduce fuel consumption by as much as 0.7 litres/100km.
Tiptronic and quattro
Audi have outfitted the SQ5 TDI with their top-of-the-line 8-speed tiptronic transmission and latest quattro permanent all-wheel drive system.
Steering and Suspension
An optional ‘dynamic steering’ that uses strain wave gearing to vary the steering ratio is available here. The Audi SQ5 TDI also features lowered suspension along with Audi drive select with a dynamic handling system. Adaptive air suspension is an option here.
Look and Feel
Design wise, the SQ5 is distinguished by new bumpers with unique air inlets and double aluminium slats on the Singleframe grille.
Aluminium elements contrast against body paint on the exterior.
20″ or 21″ cast aluminium rims are available with multiple design options.
Inside, you get contrast stitching on the leather/alcantara S sport seats (Nappa leather optional).
