Hyundai’s’ luxury division, Genesis has confirmed the arrival of the GV80, the brands first sports utility vehicle in late 2019. Genesis has already launched three luxury sedans with success and so the South Korean car brand wants to expand in the crossover market with at least two vehicles.
Genesis is moving into the SUV segment with a full-size vehicle instead of staring with smaller versions as it sees a rising demand in North America. The Genesis GV80 will go against the Mercedes-Benz GLS and the upcoming BMW X7.
Genesis is looking to share as many parts as possible between models, including drivetrains. The GV80 will employs a range of 4-cylinder, V-6, and V-8 units, but the GV80 will probably share engines with its sedan counterparts.
The larger G80 sedan (pictured above) starts off with a 3.8-liter V-6 that utilizes a three-stage variable intake system, triangular fuel injector pattern, air-gap exhaust manifold, and a two-stage oil pump. This engine produces a solid 311 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 293 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm which will compete head to head with its German rivals.
