The government has plans to make the scrapping of abandoned cars a much faster procedure for local councils. As it stands, it takes the authorities up to a year to complete the process.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke says that a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is being planned. If it comes to fruition, the SOP will make it so that councils will be able to scrap abandoned cars a month after notice has been given.
This is to clear the approximately 15,000 complaints of abandoned cars that local councils have received in the last 3 years alone.
