Audi customer teams continue their domination of the 2018 GT Masters Asia podium after China’s Xu Jia and Audi driver pool talent Mitch Gilbert of Malaysia scored a brilliant victory on their series debut, the third consecutive GT3 win for the brand with the four rings. Taking the honours at the Shanghai International Circuit in the KINGS Audi R8 LMS GT3, the pair were joined on the podium by EN Sport Motors by Absolute Racing’s Adderly Fong and Vicente Floirendo who crossed the line third.
Audi customer team success continued in the GTC class where reigning Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup Am+ champion David Chen and Naomi Zhang clinched victory for the Tianshi Racing Team (TSRT).
“Our congratulations to KINGS and TSRT on two powerful victories. Our customer teams have once again demonstrated how competitive they are amongst the strong, multi-marque GT Masters Asia field. Audi customer teams have now taken all three GT3 wins so far this season,” said Martin Kuehl, Director of Audi Sport customer racing Asia.
Winners of the opening rounds, Thailand’s Bhurit Bhirombhakdi and Kantasak Kusiri finished fifth in the GT3 class in their Singha Plan-B by Absolute Racing Audi R8 LMS, while TRC’s Tse Ka Hing and Philip Tang of Hong Kong were classified fourth and just off the podium in the 2.0T category in their Audi RS 3 LMS.
Sunday’s Round 4 was cancelled due to the threat of an approaching typhoon.
