Perodua Bezza 1.0 GXtra Review: More for Less

Perodua’s latest release, the Bezza 1.0 GXtra, came right before the announcement that GST would be zero-rated. To be clear, it’s not a drastically new car, but we feel it’s yet another of Perodua’s small but smart decisions to keep their products and customers happy.

The GXtra is the new entry level model of the Bezza, replacing the Standard G completely. It still rocks the same 1-litre 3-cylinder engine and 4-speed automatic gearbox. In fact, mechanically, nothing has been changed. So why the big fuss?

Well, because the GXtra makes the entry level Bezza a lot easier to justify in 2018.

Instead of a plain black plastic interior, this variant brings some chromed and silver painted trim pieces.

It might not seem like much, but breaking the monotony of the original Standard G cabin is a big deal to anyone who spends a lot of time behind the wheel. And yes, we’re talking about Grab drivers.

Another function added that makes this entry level Bezza more easy to live with is Bluetooth functionality. This makes hands free phone operation possible, and allows drivers to listen to podcasts and music directly from their phones.

Outside, the cosmetic upgrade continues. You get as standard, side skirts and chrome door handles for a less vanilla look. The Ocean Blue colour option, previously only available on 1.3 models is now here on the GXtra 1.0.

And finally, there’s the price difference. Despite adding value, this Bezza is almost RM500 cheaper than its predecessor. That might not seem like much, but in a car like this, that’s 1 or 2 installment payments saved on a long-term loan.

I don’t know if the GXtra was squarely aimed at Grab drivers, but it seems to be the perfect choice.

Big boot, check. Low maintenance cost, check. Low fuel consumption, check. Low selling price, check. And thanks to the improvements mentioned above, it’s also easier to look at and live with.
