It’s not quite official yet, but reports say that Grab will be buying over Uber’s Southeast Asian business, including Uber Eats. An announcement is expected sometime this Monday morning. This marks yet another failure for Uber, who have been faring badly in international markets. They’ve previously had to sell off parts of their business in China and Russia.
What this means for Grab and Uber users and drivers in Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia is still unknown. What’s clear is that Grab will have a monopoly of the ride-hailing business in the region.
