Kawasaki Z900RS Enters Malaysian Market

Kawasaki Motors Malaysia marks their re-entry into the modern classic segment with the launch of the new Z900RS. Developed as a homage to the Z1 900, the new model is offered here in two versions, namely standard and special edition.

The Z900RS features the same 948 cc, four-cylinder engine as the Z900 but the output now stands at 111 hp at 8,500 rpm and 98.5 Nm at 6,500 rpm. According to Kawasaki, the engine is tuned for better low to mid range torque.

Tasked with channelling the output to the wheel is a six-speed automatic transmission with a slipper clutch that helps prevent rear-wheel hop when downshifting.

Styling-wise, the Z900RS uses rounded elements to emulate the retro-style design of classic motorcycles such as the trademark teardrop fuel tank as well as the round LED headlight. The flowing tail cowl and oval LED taillight are inspired by the duck-bill tail cowl of the Z1.

The bike is also equipped with analogue speedometer and tachometer with a multi-functional LCD screen in between. Other standard equipment includes Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC) with two riding modes and ABS.

As for the chassis, its lightweight trellis frame is mated with a 41 mm inverted fork at the front and a back-link rear suspension that is also featured on Kawasaki’s supersport and supernaked models. The fork features compression and rebound damping adjustability to suit rider preference and riding style.

Available at authorised Kawasaki dealerships beginning this March, the new Z900RS is priced at RM67,900 for the standard version and RM69,900 for the special edition model.
