The all new Volkswagen Golf is on its way this 2018. This completely new ‘world car’ will come with some great new features and an entertaining engine range for sure. Yes, there will be a TSI for the family, a GTI for the single adult & retired Porsche owner and not forgetting the Golf R for the former BMW 3-Series owner. But before its final production and release to the global market we are hoping that this new Mk8 Golf will have some features to ‘persuade’ us to trade-in our 6-speed manual 13-year old Mk5 GTI for it.
Let’s start with the necessities and work our way to the basics.
- We want a turbocharged engine good for at least 240bhp and 350Nm of torque. This will be a true GTI and a successor to the EA888 engine.
- We want active suspension so that we can out-corner the BMW 135i.
- We want a new 6-speed double clutch automatic gearbox and we do not need a 7 or an 8-speed as we want reliability and functionality in our humidity and snarling traffic.
- Inside the cabin we want wireless charging for our smart phone so that we do not need to carry cables and have messy wires.
- We want a touch screen for all entertainment and vehicle functions like what we see in all the new Volvo’s. Tablet like functionality.
- We want Waze and Android connectivity for easy traffic commuting.
- It would be great to get under front and rear bumper park sensors to avoid scrapping the front and rear spoilers of our treasured Golf Mk8.
- For the GTI please keep the tartan seat material and front to rear 4-way adjustable headrests.
- We would like a ‘tilt and slide’ metal sunroof please as it keeps the midday heat out and lets us enjoy cool evening drives.
- We want a spare tyre….spare saver will do. No run-flats please!
- Let’s think upmarket and get a rimless rear view mirror.
- Please provide cupholders that are deeper and actually hold cups in place.
- Please, no shiny plastic finish on the dashboard to prevent the sunlight reflecting.
- 5-years manufacturers warranty.
- 5-years FREE servicing.
