Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has brought in their fastest, most extreme entry to their Dream Cars line yet – the AMG GT R.
This is essentially a road-legal version of the motorsport-only AMG GT3. At the heart of this new supercar is the AMG 4-litre V8 BiTurbo sending power to the rear wheel via an AMG Speedshift 7-speed DCT.
This puts 585hp and 700Nm in your hands, leading to a 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds, and a top speed of 318km/h.
Design highlights include new motorsport components to the sculpted body (including new gloss black caps on the side mirrors, a wide front splitter, additional air curtains, new wheel arch liners, and much more), a new AMG Panamericana grille, and new 10-spoke forged wheels in titanium grey from AMG.
These new wheels are lighter and give a better view of the yellow-painted brake calipers.
The speed-sensitive sports steering features a variable steering ratio, which enhances vehicle handling and agility. At speeds below 100km/h, rear axle steering guides the wheels are the back in the opposite direction, but at higher speeds they follow the same direction as the front wheels. This too helps keep the AMG GT R nimble at any speed.
The exhaust system features two infinitely variable exhaust flaps as standard, which open and close depending on the selected AMG DRIVE SELECT mode, although they can be controlled individualy using a separate button.
In ‘Comfort’ and ‘Sport’ modes, the low-frequency sound is typical of a V8 designed for comfort. In ‘Sport Plus’ and ‘Race’ modes, the sound is far more emotive.
Expect the AMG GT R to be priced around RM1.7 million OTR without insurance.
