Volkswagen USA has just announced that it will cover most of its 2018 offerings with a 6-year warranty twice as long as a number of its competitors in USA. This news comes as the German automaker pushes to become a major player in the American market and tries to put its diesel emissions cheating scandal in the rearview mirror, even as it deals with an almost USD3 billion setback announced recently.
That warranty, which covers 6-years or 72,000 miles, is also transferable to subsequent owners. The new so-called People First Warranty covers all 2018 models except the electric e-Golf, which carries its own 8-year/100,000-mile battery coverage.
A key part of our strategy for 2017 and beyond begins with rebuilding the trust of our customers, dealers and employees,” a VW USA spokesperson said during a media briefing at LaFontaine Volkswagen of Dearborn. “We are at a fundamental turning point for the brand and our strategy (for) our American customers, and now we are looking forward.”
