McLaren Cars may not be for sale and its operation might be very boutique, but it is somewhat desirable to own from a brand perspective. Do not surprised when and if Apple takes control of McLaren Cars as Apple would want to be seen as entering the automotive arena at the very top, several echelons above the incumbents.
McLaren plays at the highest levels when it comes to racing and engineering talent and Apple has a similar mind set in the tech world. It could just be that McLaren, based in Woking, England, is an attractive trinket to a company known for its petrol head directors.
Apple’s head of services, Eddy Cue, sits on the board of Ferrari while Phil Schiller, Apple’s marketing chief, owns a McLaren. With a market capitalization of USD617 billion, Apple could certainly snap up McLaren at its estimated worth of USD1 billion without breaking a sweat.
