BMW’s M division has a plan to release the final current generation M3 with a 460-horsepower engine capable of a 0-62 mph time of just 3.9 seconds. This car will be a power upgrade over the M4.
This new M3 CS will be “the most powerful M3 of all time. Power will come from the same 3.0-liter biturbo 6-cylinder engine, but in this application it will be offered with as much as 460hp on tap.
Like the M4 CS and GTS before it, the M3 CS will be more suited for track use with reduced weight. Currently M3 sedan tips the scales at 3,540 pounds. A carbon fiber hood, a new front splitter, a rear diffuser, and some added vents on the grille will be among the most significant upgrades. New wheels and tires will also be fitted.
With all these upgrades this new M3 CS will be able to lap the Nurburgring in less than 7:40 using Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The current record holder on the Nurburgring is the latest Subaru WRX STI Type RA NBR Special. It set a new lap record for a four-door sedan at the famous 12.8-mile Nürburgring Nordschleife race track, achieving a time of 6:57.5. The Alfa Romeo Giulia (pictured above) is a close second with a time of 7:32.
