Supercars and luxury cars have the budget to have lavish cabins installed. Customers pay hefty prices for them and it is easy for us to pick a winner with vehicles costing past RM800k. But when we see a vehicle costing less than half that amount and offering so much more in terms of interior look and feel, we have to award it with the title……… ‘Interior Design Of The Year’. The vehicle we are talking about is the Volvo S90 sedan.
Love it or hate it, there’s nothing else like this on the road today. The interior, penned by ex-Bentley man Robin Page, is set to be a show stopper. The design approach is very much driver-centric. The entire cabin centres around the vertical iPad-sized Sensus display. Flanking this is two large chrome-finned air vents. The symmetry is broken with the passenger side receiving a large wood trim piece. It’s an uncluttered, easy to navigate interior that puts functionality first, but doesn’t compromise on great retro styling.
Glass, wood, metal, leather – none of it has been substituted with a light-weight plastic. This of course means that the car ends up weighing over 1800kg. But you hardly feel it behind the wheel.
