Spinelli and Grenier win Race 2 During First Round of Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe at Monza

Many changes in the leading positions and some unexpected events: these are the ingredients which have spiced up the second of the two races of the inaugural weekend of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe at Monza.

After finishing in third position in Race 1, the Italian-Canadian crew of the team Antonelli Motorsport, formed by Loris Spinelli and the debutant Mikaël Grenier, has scored the second success of the season. This victory came after a problem reported during the pit-stop, when Vito Postiglione took over the wheel of the car of Imperiale Racing from Jonathan Cecotto, aged 17 and at his debut in the one-make series for the cars of the House of Sant’Agata Bolognese. The young Venezuelan was perfect during his driving stint. Then the unexpected problem forced Postiglione to begin a comeback in the final stages of the race and he then managed to get a fourth place overall.

Rik Breukers and Axcil Jefferies, instead, got to the podium for the second time. On Saturday, the two drivers opened the 2017 season with a victory in Race 1, with the car of GDL Racing, ahead of the duo of VS Racing formed by the Brazilian Raphael Abbate and the Japanese Yuki Nemoto.

Johnny Cecotto Jr and Milos Pavlovic also did a nice race and finished in fifth position, with the Huracán of the team Bonaldi Motorsport. A protagonist of the early stages of the race was also the 22-year-old Austrian rookie Luca Rettenbacher, who, after setting the second fastest time in qualifying, maintained his position during the first laps, before getting out of track at the Ascari variant. The duo of Leipert Motorsport, formed by Jan Kisiel and Morgan Haber, obtained good results again and finished sixth overall, ahead of the car of Artline Team Georgia driven by Sergey Afanasiev and Gerhard Tweraser.

The French drivers Jean-Laurent Navarro and Julien Briché (MN Development) finished right behind them and after starting from the eleventh row, they did an excellent comeback enabling them to finish in eighth position and to win in the PRO-AM category.

In the AM class, the Poles Andrej Lewandowski and Teodor Myszkowski managed to score two wins out of two races with VS Racing, while the Greek Antonios Vossos was the winner in the Lamborghini Cup with the team Target Racing.

The second of the six double rounds on the calendar is scheduled on the weekend of May 13-14 on the English circuit of Silverstone.
