Since opening its doors in Malaysia a few years ago, Audi Malaysia has not seen the growth it predicted. The parallel and gray market importers however were having a grand time selling the Audi TT, Audi A7, Audi A5 and the exotic looking R8 with good profit margins.
Audi Malaysia looked at their new car pricing and launched the latest Audi TT with full features at a hard to believe price that matched the asking price of a used/secondhand Audi TT with no after sales and no warranty.
Sales of the new TT picked up fast. Then after a very lengthy delay, the all new Audi A4 arrived with a long list of features and a fully imported (CBU) asking price that matched the asking price of a locally assembled Mercedes C-Class and BMW 3-Series, its nearest two competitors. This however did not do much to push the sales of the new Audi A4 sedan as the launch date was too late and the segment buyers had already taken up their German cars from Munich and Stuttgart.
Today the gray market Audi sales have somewhat dwindled with lack of after sales and spares in non authorized workshops and Audi Malaysia is looking for similar success enjoyed by BMW and Mercedes-Benz in Malaysia with increased overall sales.
So, is Audi in Malaysia heading West? Yes, they are and you will be seeing a revitalized and re-energized Audi Malaysia in coming months. Stay tuned and look West for detailed answers.
