It’s hard to believe that it has been years since Triumph Motorcycles first launched the Street Triple. For 2017, the naked bike lineup now comes with a bigger engine as well as a myriad of electronic upgrades.
Developed from the race bred engine, the 765 cc, three-pot ‘Daytona’ engine comes with 80 new parts including an increased bore and stroke, new crank, pistons and Nikasil plated aluminium barrels, resulting in better low- and mid-range performance.
Street Triple S
In its most basic form i.e. the Street Triple S, the engine delivers 113 PS and 73 Nm of torque. It is lighter than its predecessor with higher spec tyres, Showa suspension and all-new gullwing swingarm. It is also equipped with ride-by-wire throttle, two riding modes (Road and Rain), ABS and switchable traction control.
Street Triple R
Perhaps the most sensible variant of the three, the R delivers the perfect blend of power and performance. It comes with 118 PS and 77 Nm, four riding modes (Road, Rain, Sport and Rider), fully adjustable Showa suspension, and Brembo radial monobloc front calipers.
This variant can be had in Low Ride Height (LRH) form, which comes with its own unique suspension and and seating setup.
Street Triple RS
The range-topping RS boasts 123 PS and 77 Nm from the same mill, a substantial increase of 16 percent on the previous generation. In addition to the fully adjustable suspension and Brembo calipers, the RS also features adjustable rear monoshock, an additional ‘Track’ riding mode, lap timer, quickshifter and Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyres.
The bike also comes with an improved gearbox with shorter first and second gear ratios for better acceleration and revised geometry for even smoother gear changes. Additionally, the R and RS get new exhaust system and slip-and-assist clutch system.
Elsewhere, the new Street Triple R and RS come equipped with an angle adjustable, full-colour 5-inch TFT instrument panel. It features three display styles (six for the RS), which are pre-set to the riding modes, with ‘High’ or ‘Auto’ contrast mode for easier reading.
On the Street Triple S there is a fully revised LCD screen with key information from the on-board computer.
