UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd announces the addition of two new variants for the Toyota Camry range as well as upgrades for the existing variants. The new variants are in line with Toyota’s philosophy of continuous improvement and providing better value to customers. The new variants are the Camry 2.5 Hybrid Premium and Camry 2.0 GX which are positioned between the existing Camry 2.5 Hybrid Luxury and Camry 2.0 E. Their on-the- road prices in Peninsular Malaysia are RM152,900 and RM174,900 respectively. (Check out the price summary attached).
The New Camry Hybrid features fuel efficient high technology and has been certified as an EEV (Energy Efficient Vehicle) under the National Automotive Policy. The EEV certification entitles the model to receive an incentive from the government and the company has passed on the savings to its customers in the form of reduced prices. Safety is improved across the Camry range with the standard provision of a number of Active Safety systems that were previously only offered with the top variant. The Active Safety Systems are Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) while there are now seven airbags installed (including a driver’s knee airbag) in the cabin.
All variants also have an Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) system which is connected to the hazard warning lights. The system activates when there is a sudden and hard braking which indicates an emergency action. The activation of the hazard warning lights will alert drivers behind that the car is stopping suddenly so they can also take action and reduce the chance of a rear-end collision. Exclusive to the top variant (Camry 2.5 Hybrid Luxury) is a Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) which keeps the driver informed of vehicles that may be in the blind spot adjacent to the car. Also exclusive is the Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) which can reduce the possibility of an accident when reversing out of a parking spot. The system uses sensors that cover a wide area behind the car to detect approaching vehicles on the left and right sides.
Recently, Toyota received the Special Award for Safety Technology for the Blind Spot Monitor system that is available in the Toyota Camry Hybrid Luxury at the 2016 ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix Awards presentation ceremony. Inside the latest Camry range, there are also new or enhanced features for more convenience or comfort. The Camry 2.5 Hybrid Luxury now has a more premium audio system with 12 JBL GreenEdge speakers and 5.1 channel surround system.
The JBL GreenEdge speakers produce high-quality sound reproduction with low power consumption and their positions around the cabin have been carefully chosen for the best performance.
The Wireless Qi charger which was only available with the top variant is also available in the Camry 2.0G X. This convenient charger uses a pad located between the front seats. Compatible smartphones with wireless charging capability can be placed on the pad and will be recharged without having to connect any wires. The upholstery for some variants has also been upgraded or changed to refresh the appearance and ambience of the cabin. While three variants have black interiors, the new Camry 2.0G X has dark brown upholstery and Mughal Teak wood trim. The other variants have different wood trim patterns, all of high quality and inserted with the highest standards of craftsmanship.
The two Camry Hybrid variants come with a Driving Video Recorder (DVR) as standard to record the view ahead while driving. The recording may be useful evidence in the event of an accident and a special function will lock the relevant video file if there is an accident. The DVR is also available as an option for the Camry 2.0G X and 2.0E. On the exterior, the updated range does not have any major changes but the Camry Hybrid variants are now fitted with a LED fog lamps as standard. The alloy rims remain the same as before with the Camry 2.5 Hybrid Luxury and new Camry 2.0G X having 17-inch rims while the Camry 2.5 Hybrid Premium and Camry 2.0E have 16-inch rims.
All Camry variants come with a 5-year warranty, subject to terms and conditions. The battery pack for the hybrid variants has a separate warranty of 8 years.
