016,000 kms with the VW Amarok Polar Expedition
The VW Amarok Polar Expedition drove up to the eastern end of the vast Russian empire to promote themselves and the Winter Olympics earlier this year.
Three slightly modified VW Amarok and nine people on board were sent to the 16,000 km journey from Moscow to Petropavlovsk. The 60-day odyssey led across the least explored regions of Russia. For the first time became a part of the Koryak Plateau and the Sredinny-ridge sail in Kamchatka – and so set a new record for the Guinness World Records.
For the icy trip were the Serial Amaroks equipped only with a roll cage, special shock absorbers, a winch and giant tires. Thus, the expedition team in the Russian cold and far from any civilization is not lost, the vehicles were equipped with a special Navigerät. The centerpiece of the Amarok, the two-liter turbo engine, however, was not touched – finally went to reliability yes, and not about performance or speed.
