Proton has unveiled yet another new car – their 4th release in 2016 alone! The new Ertiga, a rebadged Suzuki of the same name, was unveiled early this morning. It fills the compact MPV role, taking its place below the Exora in terms of dimensions and pricing.
The only aspect that’s larger in the Ertiga than it is in the Exora seems to be the ground clearance and wheelbase. That being said, the Proton Ertiga is a six-seater by law due to the absence of a 7th 3-point seatbelt. The car has received a 4-Star ASEAN NCAP Safety Rating.
It’s powered by a 1.4-litre DOHC VVT engine – an engine so efficient its become Proton’s first EEV-certified vehicle. It produces 92 PS @ 6000rpm and 130 Nm of torque @ 4000rpm and gets 5.7 litres/100km when mated to a 5-speed manual.
A 4-speed automatic is available as well. If you’re looking for a few more features, like side folding mirrors, LED signal lights, steering mounted audio controls, driver seat height adjustment, and more chrome there’s an ‘Executive Plus’ variant which is packaged with the automatic gearbox. This version is also a little quieter on the inside thanks to additional noise and vibration dampening material.
Proton plans to conduct CKD operations of the Ertiga in their Tanjung Malim, with the aim of producing 1,500 units a month.
