Swiss watchmaker Oris presents latest limited edition diver’s watch made especially for Royal Navy Clearance Divers. The highly trained members of this British military unit will wear the watch as they identify and destroy mines and other explosives.
Mine clearance divers work in deep and shallow waters all over the world, down to depths of 60 metres, and are also trained to operate on ship hulls and propellers. It’s a tough, physically demanding job. They rely on high-grade equipment, and the new watch, which is based on the Oris Aquis, will serve as a vital support tool.
The watch has a 46mm stainless steel case with a screw-down crown that helps guarantee water resistance to 50 bar/500 metres. It’s also fitted with a unidirectional rotating bezel – an essential diver’s watch function that measures remaining dive time – and a stainless steel bracelet and safety clasp. The tough, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass is domed on both sides and has an anti-reflective coating on the inside to reduce glare underwater.
True to the Oris philosophy, the watch is powered by an automatic movement that provides it with a small seconds function at 9 o’clock and a date at 6 o’clock. Stamped with the Royal Navy Clearance Divers insignia on the reverse, the watch is a fitting tribute to the elite unit’s brave members. Only 100 will be made, and they will only be available to past and present members of the elite naval unit.
