Jaguar Land Rover (Malaysia) today launched its very first performance SUV, the Jaguar F-Pace, which is dubbed as the ‘world’s ultimate practical sports car’.
For the Malaysian market, the F-Pace is offered with a supercharged V6 engine in two trim levels – the Prestige which is sold at RM598,800 and the better equipped R-Sport at RM658,800. Prices quoted are inclusive of 6% GST but exclude road tax, registration and insurance.
Driven by a twin-vortex supercharger, the 3.0-litre mill churns out 340 PS at 6,500 rpm and 450 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. The output is channeled to all four wheels through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and the torque on-demand all-wheel drive (AWD) system.
This enables the SUV to complete the 0 to 100 sprint in just 5.8 seconds before reaching an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.
Developed based on Jaguar’s Lightweight Aluminium Architecture, the F-Pace features a light, stiff body structure comprising 80% aluminium, making it the only candidate with an aluminium-intensive monocoque in the segment. Additional weight savings come from the composite tailgate and magnesium for parts such as the cross-car beam.
With a total length of 4,731 mm and a wheelbase of 2,874 mm, the SUV has enough cabin space to accommodate five adult occupants with generous head and knee room, and a luggage space of 508 liters even when a space saver spare wheel is fitted.
For infotainment, the Prestige comes with InControl Touch featuring an eight-inch touchscreen, while the R-Sport gets InControl Touch Pro comprising a 10.2-inch touchscreen with a powerful quad-core processor. solid-state drive as well as ultra-fast Ethernet.
Additionally, the Pro package also adds a 12.3-inch instrument cluster with a 3D navigation system.
The F-Pace is equipped with the advanced, in-house control system first developed for F-Type AWD: Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD), which preserves rear-wheel drive agility and handling character while transferring torque to the front wheels for better performance.
The Prestige model benefits from monotube dampers as standard, while the R-Sport boasts an electronically-controlled Adaptive Dynamics system that measures body and wheel movement 100 and 500 times a second respectively, ensuring optimum damping forces in all conditions.
No doubt that enthusiastic drivers in the R-Sport will appreciate the Configurable Dynamics, which allows individual settings for the throttle, gearbox, steering, and the Adaptive Dynamics system.
The variant also benefits from the Adaptive Surface Response (ASR), a system that optimises the mapping of the powertrain and Dynamic Stability Control system. It has been enhanced by a third mode designed for deep snow and gravel. Additional technologies available include the existing All Surface Progress Control and Low Friction Launch which are both standard features.
The launch of the F-Pace also brings the world debut of Jaguars Activity Key, which is a waterproof, shockproof wristband with an integrated transponder. The wearable technology supports active lifestyles by allowing the keyfob to be securely locked inside the vehicle – invaluable if you’re going surfing or kayaking. Locking the vehicle using the Activity Key will disable any keyfobs left inside. This feature is available as an optional accessory.
Every F-Pace comes with Jaguar Care, which comprises a five-year warranty and five years of free servicing plus three years of Jaguar Roadside Assistance.
For those who want to stand out in the crowd, there is the exclusive Black Pack R-Sport option that comes with gloss black radiator grille and surrounds, body colour door claddings with gloss black finishers and gloss black side power vents with R-Sport badge.
