Say hello to Lynk & Co. Established Chinese car maker Geely, the owner of Volvo and the London Taxi Company, has launched this all new car brand Lynk & Co with the aim to disrupt the traditional car distribution and sharing models.
The first car under the new brand is an SUV called the 01, which will be followed by the names 02, 03 and so forth. The car and the brand launch was held recently in Berlin, Germany to show the world that Lynk & Co is destined as a global brand.
Now for the technology. All Lynk & Co cars will be hybrid and very fuel-efficient which is all we know for now. The company also claims the cars will be very safe; the Lynk & Co 01 will be fitted with safety features like Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Brake (AEB) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), to name a few. The car is based on Geely’s new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), which it will share with future Volvo and Geely cars.
For now we know that the 01 will be very competitively priced with reduced exchange in marketing hands as it will be sold only online. If you are reading this and about to make a call to your friends in China to secure a partnership for Malaysia you are going to be disappointed as its distribution model does not need or use traditional car dealerships, instead it will be sold online like a Oppo phone or computer to keep prices low. You can still call for the franchise and after-sales probably.
The Lynk & Co 01 will be available in China in 2017 to start and then followed by a launch in Europe and the U.S. There’s no word on the selling price, but Geely claims that it will have little competition due to its sales channel.
