News have just surfaced of the new Lexus CT 200h which will be underpinned by the same Toyota New Global Architecture as the 2016 Toyota Prius. Confirmation about the use of this platform is said to have come from a senior official within the Japanese automaker.
If the new CT 200h does indeed share its underpinnings with the latest Prius, then there’s a strong chance it will borrow other technologies from it, too. The current hybrid hatch utilizes a 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 98hp joined with an electric motor for a total of 134hp.
By comparison, the latest Toyota Prius utilises a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor pumping out 71hp and 120 lb-ft of torque. Lexus could borrow this powertrain and leave it unchanged for use in the second generation CT 200h or tweak it. Either way, it seems likely that it will be more powerful than the outgoing model.
