Desperate to reclaim a position as a socially responsible corporate citizen after the Dieselgate drama, Volkswagen is ready to deliver to showrooms next year a brand new Golf that will deliver segment best emissions, features and even power delivery.
This new Golf will also focus heavily on delivering clean, zero-emission, battery-electric and plug-in hybrid versions to the global market. It will effectively create a two-tier Golf family, with the petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid versions sitting on a modest development of the current Golf’s MQB architecture. Both the 3 and 5-door models will use the same 103.5-inch wheelbase.
The engine range for Asia is rumored to include:
- 0-liter three-cylinder petrol with 110 bhp (82 kW) and 148 lb-ft (200 Nm) of torque
- 2-liter TSI with 110 bhp and 175 Nm of torque
- 4-liter TSI with 150 bhp and 249 Nm of torque
- 8-liter TSI with 190 bhp and 320 Nm of torque
