BMW Group is readying its all-new 7th generation saloon, with prototypes already being spotted at the Nurburgring for the 1st time.
Like previous generations, this new BMW 3 Series 2018, code-named the G20, will probably wind up as the benchmark for your smaller sedan segment in regards to significant metrics such as driving dynamics and effectiveness. However, Mercedes-Benz and in many cases Jaguar and Audi with their most up-to-date compact sedan offerings have left BMW in catch-up mode.
This 2018 BMW 3 Series G20 will be based on a new architecture called ‘CLAR’. This new platform was created in order to form the backbone of all future BMW rear-wheel drive cars.
According to a source at BMW, the company is currently preparing a new infotainment system specifically for the 3 Series, which will be equipped with the new iDrive system, gestures control system and many other new features.
Technically this model will continue to be rear-wheel drive, as well as with optional all-wheel drive system xDrive. Weight distribution will tend to the ideal ratio of 50:50. This new 3 Series will also be equipped with a 3-cylinder turbo engine range together with the current 4-cylinder engines. Top-end 6-cylinder engines with turbochargers will also remain. As expected, all power units by 2018 will be further developed to provide more power and reduce fuel consumption.
