Design: a blend of origins and the future.

Retaining exterior design features exemplary to the BMW 3 Series, the new BMW 330e communicates its hybrid nature with special exterior features that includes the charging socket panel positioned on the left front wing of the car. Blue light effects appear here at the start of the charging process to indicate the flow of energy. Meanwhile, the already familiar “eDrive” badge from the BMW i models graces the vehicle’s flanks. Further accentuating the dynamic character of the new BMW 330e are 18-inch V-spoke light alloy wheels with mixed sized tyres.

Drivetrain: BMW TwinPower Turbo and BMW eDrive techonologies.

The new BMW 330e has an innovative hybrid powertrain comprising of a 2-litre 4-cylinder combustion engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and a synchronous BMW eDrive electric motor integrated in an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. Combined with a permanent rear-wheel drive system and eDrive technology, the BMW 330e is equipped to deliver a potent performance with exemplary efficiency.

The four-cylinder petrol unit, which has already won the International Engine of the Year Award on three occasions, churns a sporty power delivery. Maximum output is 252 hp with a peak torque of 420Nm while combined fuel consumption is at 2.1 litres per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions is at 49 grams per kilometre. The electric motor meanwhile, delivers an output of 65 kW/88 hp and is able to travel at a top speed of 120 km/h in pure electric drive. Together, the new BMW 330e completes the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just 6.1 seconds and has a top speed of 225 km/h.

The vehicle set-up and powertrain control can be configured as desired with the eDrive button and Driving Experience Control switch. The eDrive presents three driving modes – AUTO eDRIVE, MAX eDRIVE and SAVE BATTERY. In the AUTO eDrive setting, both engine and electric motor works in tandem highly efficiently. The intelligent energy management selects the optimal drive combination depending on the charging status of the high-voltage battery, thus ensuring balanced driving characteristics that combine sportiness and efficiency. The electric motor alone is used for setting off with normal power requirements, while the engine cuts in at around 80 km/h or when the driver wishes to accelerate very sharply.

Switching to MAX eDRIVE mobilizes the electric drive system’s full output with zero local emissions. Powered solely by the electric motor, the BMW 330e can achieve a top speed of up to 120 km/h. Should more power be required than can be accessed from the electric drive system, the combustion engine will be triggered almost instantaneously, ensuring minimal disruption to the driving experience. The electric motor also doubles as an electric generator during coasting and braking achieved through electric resistance that in turn creates free electrical energy to be stowed in the high-voltage battery. With an impressive maximum range of up to 37 km on all-electric mode, the MAX eDRIVE mode is suited for city dwellers where daily urban trips can be taken with extreme efficiency and comparatively practical performance.

In SAVE BATTERY mode, energy is conserved or replenished through recuperation during coasting. The BMW TwinPower Turbo combustion engine also aids in charging the battery up to 50% to enable all-electric driving at a later point in time. Additionally, choosing the “S” position of the selector lever while in SAVE BATTERY mode will start the internal combustion engine independently. This mode further epitomizes the flexibility offered to the driver to tailor the vehicle’s configuration to meet an infinite spectrum of driving needs.

Aside from the eDrive button, the BMW 330e comes with a Driving Experience Control switch which allows users to configure the steering and chassis functions as well as the shift characteristics of the eight-speed Steptronic transmission. Controllable via the Driving Experience Control switch on the centre console, the modes offered are COMFORT, SPORT, AND ECO PRO.

The BMW 330e also offers Head-Up Display, Rear View Camera and electric Glass Roof as a standard offering.

Cutting-edge connectivity and innovative on-road companions.

Outstanding connectivity is exemplified through the latest BMW ConnectedDrive which links the driver, vehicle, and the outside world in a seamless nexus.

Some of the wealth of innovative BMW ConnectedDrive features include a host of new driver assistance systems. This includes the latest generation Navigation System Professional including iDrive Touch Controller for even faster route calculation and realistic 3D display of urban areas. Also new is the Parking Assistant function with automatic steering when parking parallel and perpendicular to the road. While parking, the PDC sensors at the front will activate automatically when approaching obstacles.

The new BMW 330e also offers BMW Online Office as part of its services and apps offering. This service enables the reading, writing and sending of emails from within the vehicle using the fixed on-board SIM card. Additional BMW ConnectedDrive Services & Apps in the new BMW 330e includes Intelligent Emergency Call, Concierge Services, BMW Teleservices and MyBMW Remote App, which in a plug-in hybrid vehicle enables drivers to regulate the car’s temperature remotely and provides data on the current charging status of the battery, among other functions.

Charging options with BMW 360° ELECTRIC.

The high-voltage battery of the new BMW 330e offers a gross energy capacity of 7.6 kWh and can be topped up with energy from any domestic power socket. Full charge by the conventional domestic power socket would take 5 hours. The BMW Wallbox Pro, meanwhile offers a quicker charge time of 3.5 hours.
