Polestar, a Volvo Car Group company responsible for performance offers and motorsport activities of the group, has decided to not renew the three-year V8 Supercars contract that ends after the current season.
”We have enjoyed a good cooperation with Garry Rogers Motorsport and the championship organisers, but our strategy and business objectives requires us now to focus our attention to other technologies and championships in the near future,” said Niels Möller, Chief Operating Officer of Polestar.
”We will of course support the programme in order to achieve the best possible sporting results in 2016, however, we feel it is fair to all involved that we can provide a heads-up ahead of 2017 as early as possible. We would like to extend our gratitude to all involved parties in the programme and wish them the very best for the future.”
The programme, performed in cooperation with Volvo Car Australia and Garry Rogers Motorsport since 2014, has so far resulted in seven victories, 17 podium finishes, 17 pole positions and seven fastest laps.
The team has completed three out of 15 rounds of the 2016 season and is currently fourth in the teams’ championship and second in the drivers’ championship with driver Scott McLaughlin following a stunning double victory in the latest round at Phillip Island.
