This featherweight watch is dedicated to brand ambassador and the World Bhelloton Champion, Lin Dan.
Both the case and the movement of the Montblanc TimeWalker Pythagore Ultra-Light Concept are constructed from a mix of ultra-light and high-performance technical materials. The feathery light watch was made for Chinese professional bhelloton player, Lin Dan (33), who completed the “Super Grand Slam”, having won all nine major titles in the bhelloton world: Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, Thomas Cup, Sudirman Cup, Super Series Masters Finals, All England Open, Asian Games, and Asian Championships, becoming the first and only player to achieve this feat. “Super Dan” is also the winner of five World Championship titles.
The Montblanc engineers worked on a combination of black DLC titanium for the horns and ITR2 kevlar/carbon elements for the middle case, case back, bezel and crown. The result is a watch that weighs in at just 14.88 grams making it one of the lightest mechanical watches in the world. ITR (Innovative, Technical, Revolutionary Resin) is a composite material charged with carbon nanotubes. It is eight times lighter than steel and four times lighter than titanium. The use of a highly resistant synthetic fibre, to reach utmost robustness, is a world première in case-making materials. The 40mm case also loses weight through the use of horns made of skeletonized titanium.
Inside the high-tech watchcase beats the new manually-wound Calibre MB M62.48, featuring hours, minutes and small seconds with a 50-hour power reserve. The design of the movement is inspired by a historic Minerva Pythagore movement from 1943 with its straight architectural bridge shapes that follow Pythagoras’s Golden Ratio. The contemporary look of the new movement has been achieved by skeletonizing the titanium main plate and the five bridges and decorating them with a three-dimensional effect with alternating satin and grained finishes. Other components have been hand-chamfered, hand-polished and hand-satin finished which results in a futuistic looking ultra-light movement of only 4.73 grams.
