UMW Toyota (UMWT) today has followed through a global recall campaign that was issued by Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) recently for certain Lexus ES and RX models. The recall is regarding a brake actuator issue.
Specifically, the recall is for models which are equipped with an Anti-Lock Braking system (ABS), Traction Control System (TRC), and Vehicle Stability Control System (VSC), all of which are controlled by the brake actuator.
According to Toyota, there is a possibility that the pump in some brake actuators are using an O-ring that is damaged, which in turn can cause uncontrolled brake fluid pressure during ABS, TRC and VSC activation. In such a case, loss of vehicle stability control may happen.
Unlike the global recall by TMC, the one issued by UMWT only involves the ES model as the RX model does not have the same issue. The ES models affected are those manufactured from September 2015 to February 2016. Around 90 units sold by Lexus Malaysia are effected.
All costs related to the repair will be borne by Lexus Malaysia. Affected owners will be notified directly by the company. Alternatively, customers may get clarification by contacting the authorised Lexus dealer they bought their vehicle from.
