On the advice of the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Audi of America is recalling 170,000 automobiles from model year 2005 through 2014. Audi has been informed by the authorities that certain driver side front airbags made by the manufacturer Takata could be defective. Products from the Japanese manufacturer are also fitted into Audi models in the U.S.
So far, both Daimler and Volkswagen Group have come forward on the issue as well, making a recall statement due to the Takata defect problem. It’s likely that more and more players in the industry will eventually issue recalls once they determine the extent of the models of affected.
