PROTON today unveiled 6 new engines that promise the company’s return to form. They’re all designed to comply with the Euro 6C standard, which means not only will PROTON be able to sell cars in the UK well into the 2020s.

Very little was revealed about their specifications, but what we do know is that the range topping 1.5-litre producing an excess of 180 horsepower and 250Nm of torque! What’s more, the engines are expected to return 25% in terms of fuel savings over the current range of CFE engines.
These engines were developed in conjunction with Ricardo – a global engineering, strategic and environmental consultancy located in Shoreham by the Sea, England. 20 engineers from PROTON were on board throughout the development. PROTON spent about RM600 million on the development of these engines and expect these engines to be a turning point in the company’s history.
A torque-converter CVT is concurrently being built, and you can expect to see these engines on the road by the end of 2017. More on this story tonight.
