When it comes to performance parts for Honda, one of the most reputable tuners on the market is Mugen. The Japanese tuning company had humble beginnings way back in the 1970s, when Soichiro Honda’s son wished to work with Honda products but was forbidden from working in Honda itself (out of fear of nepotism accusations). Since then they’ve been providing excellent tuning components to push performance Hondas further than their already impressive abilities.
Their main expertise lay with single seater racing, but every now and then they produced some production cars that were marketed under the Mugen name. Not least of which was the Mugen RR, which was a very high performance variant based off the FD2 Civic and not the FD2R as some people would have expected. This time around, they’ve applied their magic and know-how to the FK2 Civic Type-R with this Mugen Concept model- shown off at Tokyo Auto Salon. There are plenty of additional canards and aerodynamic pieces as well as a larger GT wing, all of which make this concept all the more menacing in the metal. They haven’t yet said what they’ve done under the bonnet, but with the high potential of turbocharged motors we can expect a significant improvement in power.
