The PROTON Design Competition 2015 closed on 18 September 2015 with a total of 427 entries received for both Category 1 (Secondary Schools) and Category 2 (Individuals aged 18 and above). The competition that ran for 14 weeks starting from 18th June 2015 was to instill the spirit of creativity and skills among Malaysian in creating innovative design of concept cars especially suited for Malaysian families. Judges consist of Heads of various departments in PROTON Holdings Berhad, led by Azlan Othman, Chief Designer of PROTON with guest judges from the Design Faculty of UiTM and online motoring partners from Paultan.org and Infokereta.com.
This year, the actual deadline for the entries was earlier scheduled for 1st September 2015 and was extended to mid-September. The extension was given due to requests for additional preparation time to the participants from secondary schools as they juggle their time between the festive holidays and school assessments. Each of the design received is evaluated based on the criteria given and only designs that adheres to the rules set in the contest form qualify for the judging. Those include hand drawn ideation sketches and exterior rendering for Category 1 whilst interior and exterior renderings are required for Category 2.
Submissions must also be on A3-sized paper with coloured visualisation for the final renderings and accompanied by an A4-sized design brief. Winners this year will receive a much larger cash prizes worth RM10,000, RM7,000 and RM5,000 for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place of Category 1: Secondary Schools whilst the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for Category 2: Individuals will win RM15,000, RM10,000 and RM7,000 respectively. 4th to 10th place consolation winners of both categories will also bring home RM1,000 cash prize along with a certificate and medal or trophy.
