Polestar has two divisions, Polestar Engineered Cars, which produces the highly tuned S60 and V60, and Polestar Performance Optimization, which offers software tweaks to boost power, enhance gear shift times and improve throttle response.
Earlier this month Polestar announced that its optimization option would be extended to Volvo’s XC90 flagship, giving customers the chance to boost horsepower in the SUV’s six-cylinder gasoline engine by 14hp to 334hp and increase torque by 40 newton meters to 440 newton meters. The XC90 D5 diesel’s horsepower can be increased to 233hp from 225hp with a boost in torque to 500 newton meters from 470 newton meters.
Polestar tuned 90,000 cars in the last five years and Polestar Performance Optimization features will be added to 25,000 vehicles by the end of 2015 and the aim is to increase that amount by 20 percent a year.
About one half of his company’s profit comes from the Polestar Engineered division and the other half from the Polestar Performance Optimization.
