The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand delivered 4.35 million vehicles from January to September this year. Deliveries continued to grow in Europe in particular. There was also a slight increase in the United States. However, the Russian and Brazilian markets, the largest in their respective region, remain challenging. In contrast, the situation in China stabilized, with deliveries by the Volkswagen brand in September only slightly below the prior-year level. 513,500 vehicles were handed over to customers worldwide in the month of September.
The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand delivered 1.30 million vehicles on the overall European market in the first three quarters, an increase of 3.1 percent. Growth was primarily attributable to Western Europe, where deliveries increased by 6.3 percent to 1.15 million units. While deliveries in the home market of Germany in the period to September grew 4.3 percent to 448,500 vehicles, the rise in brand deliveries in the UK (+6.9 percent) and Spain (+15.3 percent) was even stronger.
In contrast, deliveries in Central and Eastern Europe continued to decline (-16.2 percent). This is chiefly due to the tense situation in Russia, where the brand handed over 56,000 vehicles to customers during the same period. The 40.3 percent downturn could be only partially offset by other markets in the region.
Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivered 443,300 vehicles in the North America region from January to September, an increase of 2.5 percent. Deliveries started to pick up slightly in the United States, where Volkswagen Passenger Cars handed over 26,100 vehicles to customers in the month of September – a modest increase of 0.6 percent. The South America region continues to feel the effects of the challenging situation in Brazil, where deliveries fell by 32.6 percent to 267,500 units. As a result, deliveries in the South America region in the period to September declined by approximately one quarter.
The brand delivered 2.08 million units in the Asia-Pacific region in the first three quarters, of which 1.91 million vehicles were handed over to customers in China (incl. Hong Kong).
