The battle between Toyota and Volkswagen for the title of world’s biggest manufacturer has been raging on for years, with the Germans finally gaining the lead earlier this year. However, following the catastrophic dieselgate scandal, Toyota has emerged back on top in September with 7.49 million units sold throughout the month – 60,000 units more than their archrivals managed in the same time.
It’s not all good news though. This time last year, both manufacturers sold 1.5% more cars than they have so far in 2015. General Motors trails behind in third place with 7.2 million units sold in September. With Ferrari gaining independence, this number will probably reduce temporarily with the new Alfa Romeo and Fiat models to pick up the slack in 2016.
