Fans of the Saab 9-3 rejoice! Intellectual property rights to the car were recently acquired by Turkey. Fikri Isik, the country’s Science, Industry and Technology minister made it official today in an announcement saying that the rights to the ‘9-3’ name was not a part of the deal.
To make things clear, the Saab 9-3 is dead, you’re not going to see a refreshed model from the Swedish marque. However, the country will utilise its dated but respectable chassis in order to create an new beast altogether. Turkey plans to produce at least 85% of the part that go into the resulting car locally, but the bad news is that it will look more like a Cadillac than a Saab.
That’s because it’s being redesigned and outfitted with newer technology in order to keep it competitive. Saab has been a big part of this, providing prototypes, training and design work.
