Honda has plans to revive the iconic S2000 sports car and news has just emerged that the powerplant planned for this successor to the Honda S2000 (pictured here) will benefit from the brand’s F1 hybrid technology. Yes, that the car will be powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine when it arrives in 2 years’ time, with an expected 300bhp to rival Mazda’s upcoming RX8.
The earlier news stated that the S2000-replacement would feature a turbocharged 2.0-litre power-unit, as seen in the latest Honda Civic Type-R, this now has changed to meet emission laws in the future.
The all new S2000 will sit below the all new NSX in Honda’s sports car range when it comes to market, much like the original S2000 did in-line with the first generation NSX in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s.
Detailed specifications and design details on the new car are as yet unknown, however it is expected to take inspiration from the all new NSX. Just like the 1st S2000, this new S2000 will arrive at a time when Honda returns as an engine provider in Formula 1.
