One the eve of the historical first event of the TCR Asia Series at Sepang Circuit in Malaysia, Macau’s Asia Racing Team [ART] have revealed that Frenchman Philippe Descombes, and Macau motor racing ace Rodolfo Avila will campaign their two Seat Léon TCR cars for the season-opener.
With the emergence of the new Touring Car category this season, a number of teams are embarking on a test and development program ahead of a full assault on the 2016 championship – details of which will be revealed soon – with ART taking the opportunity to put the experienced Descombes and Avila behind the wheel for Sepang to see what the cars are truly capable of.
Descombes is perhaps better known as the man at the helm of the ART operation, assisting a number of drivers to championship wins across the Asian region in both open-wheelers and sportscars, however the Frenchman is also an accomplished driver, and he is looking forward to returning to driving duties behind the wheel of the successful Seat Leon TCR car.
Avila too is a well respected and successful campaigner in Asia, however unlike Descombes, much of his time is spent behind the wheel, the ART Driver Coach a regular in Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, and the Macanese driver will contest both categories this weekend. All the action will get underway at Sepang on Friday 4 September, with two scheduled official practice sessions ahead of qualifying and the opening race on Saturday, and two further ten lap races on Sunday.
All details of the weekend will be updated on the www.asia.tcr-series.com website, and through www.facebook.com/tcrasiaseries and www.twitter.com/tcrasiaseries
