In line with increased overseas spend by its cardmembers, United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Bhd (UOB Malaysia) today announced the launch of a new credit card, UOB PRVI Miles, created specifically for Malaysian travellers.
In the first six months of 2015, UOB Malaysia cardmembers spent about RM111 million during their travels in Southeast Asia, which represented an increase of 20 per cent over the same period in 2014. Among the countries in the region, the year-on-year growth spend was the highest in Thailand at 71 per cent. Cardmembers spent 13 per cent more in Singapore than they did the year before.
During their travels in the region, cardmembers spent the most on retail shopping, taking up 20 per cent of their total card spend, followed by 15 per cent on hotel accommodation and five per cent on dining. Given the interests of its travelling cardmembers, UOB Malaysia has introduced travel privileges across Southeast Asia. These include discounts at Pan Pacific Hotel Group properties, dining benefits at more than 1,000 restaurants in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, and other discounts and special offers at Singapore’s major retail outlets.
Ms Annie Tan, Managing Director and Country Head of Personal Financial Services, UOB Malaysia said that the launch of the UOB PRVI Miles card is timely as it meets increased demand for intra-regional spending among cardmembers.
“It is common for our cardmembers to travel around Southeast Asia frequently for business and leisure. When they are anywhere in Southeast Asia, we want them to know that they too can enjoy the same lifestyle benefits that locals do, from dining treats at top restaurants in Singapore to shopping discounts in Bangkok,” Ms Tan said.
The new UOB PRVI Miles card also offers one of the highest reward points among travel-specific credit cards in Malaysia. For every ringgit spent overseas, cardmembers are rewarded with five times UniRinggit points, which can be redeemed for air miles with more than 60 partner airlines.
Apart from receiving benefits for spending abroad, cardmembers also enjoy privileges for spending at home. For every ringgit spent locally on household items, automobile services and transactions made through contactless payment systems, UOB PRVI Miles cardmembers also receive five times UniRinggit points.
