Mitsubishi teased the upcoming 2016 Pajero Sport just a month ahead of its full official reveal. Although the teaser reveals very little beyond the ‘Dynamic Shield’ signature front grille, the fact that the patent images of the Pajero Sport (also called the Challenger in some markets) reveals any element of mystery.
Just like the outgoing Pajero Sport, which is still on sale, the upcoming model will run on the Triton’s chassis, but it will be from the latest generation Triton, which is completely new. Just like the new Triton, the Pajero Sport will continue down Mitsubishi’s rounded design language, which seems to appease many, but can be polarizing, especially when you consider just how squared off the current Pajero Sport is.
It’s possible that the 7-seater will be powered by the 2.4-litre turbodiesel in some markets, but it’s likely we’ll see the 2.5-litre turbodiesel that sits in the Triton. This engine produces 178PS and 400Nm of torque when equipped with an intercooler. The full reveal will come in August, so stay tuned for that.
