PROTON Holdings Berhad (PROTON) today launches the PROTON Design Competition 2015, which is into its second year. The theme for this year is “Design A Concept Car For The Malaysian Family”. There are two categories, Category 1 – Secondary School, for those aged 13-17 years old and Category 2 – Individual, for those aged 18 years old and above. Secondary school students can send their entries in a group of 3 students and submission must be under their school name. For the individual category, anyone above the age of 18 years old can send their entries as an individual entry. The contest is only open to Malaysians holding a valid identity card and cash prizes of up to RM15,000 can be won. Other than cash prizes, 10 winners from both categories will also bring home a medal or trophy and certificate from PROTON.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of PROTON, Dato’ Abdul Harith Abdullah, the Competition is one of the ways to nurture the spirit of creativity and innovation.
“When we started the competition last year, we received such encouraging suggestions to allow a larger age group to show their talents in automotive design. So, instead of just opening up the competition to secondary school students and youths up to the age of 25, we have now open up Category 2 to anyone over the age of 18. We have talented Malaysians in the art of designing and we hope that we could further spur the interest in the industry especially with entries from aspiring car designers,” said Dato’ Harith. “This Competition will also give PROTON the opportunity to connect with the youth and allow Malaysians to get a first-hand experience in car designing. The process is a delicate one as it is not just about drawing a design but they would have to think of the overall concept as well in order to justify and sell to others the ideas behind that design,” Dato’ Harith added.
All participants are required to design the exterior of the car according to the theme and submit the development sketches and renderings. If the participant has the advantage of using a design software, they can also submit a 3D digital visualisation of the exterior. Additional to this, participants for Category 2 must submit the interior vehicle packaging diagram for occupants and engine layout, and the illustrative renderings of the interior of the car. 3D digital visualisation of the interior is also welcomed. All sketches and renderings must be on A3 size paper and cannot be mounted, laminated or bound together.
For the entry to qualify, participants must also provide a Design Brief in an A4 size paper containing not more than 350 words, the title of the design, the design concept and the unique selling proposition of the car.
Participants can submit a maximum of three (3) designs and mail the entries to:
