Managers of the Nurburgring race track have seen fit to ban lap records altogether, following the fatal accident during last month’s VLN Endurance championship involving Jann Mardenborough’s Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3.
The crash claimed the life of one spectator, which resulted first in the imposition of a speed limit at Flugplatz near the site of the accident.
The all-out ban on lap records will undoubtedly upset many, not least of all Koenigsegg, who were just about to attempt to break the record on the track with their One:1. It may not be a permanent ban, as the management will review the decision by the end of the year, when all safety concerns have been addressed.
