Ford today announced its May performance in Malaysia, with retail sales rising 71 percent from the previous month to 639 units, as sales rebounded following implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in April. The May sales were driven by significant month-over-month increases for the Ranger, EcoSport, Focus and Fiesta nameplates. Ford’s year-to-date sales have increased eight percent to 5,623 units.
“Through May, we’ve maintained positive growth over our record year in 2014, and we’re confident this momentum will continue to build, as we refresh our current lineup with the new Ranger and Everest, and add the Mustang to our growing showroom,” said David Westerman, managing director, Malaysia and Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company.
The versatile Ranger pickup continued as Ford’s most popular nameplate in Malaysia in May, with sales that rose 95 percent from the previous month to 413 units. Through May, Ranger sales have risen 40 percent over the previous year to 4,128 units.
Offering an unmatched safety package in Malaysia, the full Ranger line-up is now equipped with additional active and passive safety features, including Ford’s Electronic Stability Control (ESC) across all variants and ISOFIX mounts for child seats in the Wildtrak, XLT and XL Double Cab variants.
“Alongside its great safety package, the Ranger delivers a best-in-class combination of power, payload capacity, towing and water-wading capabilities, making it perfect for a range of work and lifestyles,” explained Westerman.
To meet demand as the year progresses, Ford has increased dealer stock nationwide across the entire Ranger line-up.
Sales of the EcoSport compact urban SUV rose 44 percent over the previous month to 82 units. EcoSport combines the agility of a compact passenger car with the flexibility, water-wading capability and ride height of a SUV.
May also saw initial customer deliveries of the new Mondeo commence. The sophisticated new Mondeo’s 2.0L EcoBoost engine delivers an impressive 240 PS and 345 Nm of torque, and is mated with a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. Mondeo also comes packed with smart technologies, including Ford’s MyKey and SYNC 2 connectivity system.
