During the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, we were shown what a Maserati SUV would look like in the form of the Kubang concept. It has been about 4 years since then, and the Italians have finally patented its designs for the production model, which will bear the Levante nameplate.
The drawings show some changes from the Kubang, but the overall design is very much familiar, especially from the profile shot where it remains almost completely untouched.
The front is a different story though. Redesigned headlights and intakes make the new SUV look a little more angular, while the large fog lights are mounted close to the headlights.
Rear styling has also changed, again with more squared off lights paired up with rounded quad exhaust pipes rather than the rectangular ones shown on the Kubang. A few engine options are being planned, with petrol units in V6 or V8 forms developing between 350 PS and 560 PS. There’s also a planned diesel powerplant with less power but more torque. Expect more details as we approach its full reveal in 2016.
