Alfa Romeo has begun taking orders in the UK for the gorgeous open-top 4C Spider. Removing the roof minor structural enhancements since it’s based on the same carbon fibre chassis. Alfa have included a specially developed aluminium rollover protection structure, carbon fibre windscreen frame and a high-strength steel cross-member for the engine compartment.
It’s powered by the same turbocharged 240hp 1750 TBi engine in the non-convertible model, which allows a 0-100km/h time of less than 4.5 seconds and on to a top speed of nearly 260km/h..
In addition to the standard lightweight fabric roof, Alfa Romeo will offer a carbon fibre hardtop as an option, but you’ll have to wait for that. The covered xenon headlights now come as standard for the Spider. There is an optional carbon fibre air intake system which is better at keeping the transmission cool, which ought to help with track days. As pictured, the Spider comes in a new Giallo Prototipo yellow paint option.
Alfa has promised interior upgrades later in the year, including premium leather trim but for now, buyers will have to focus their attention on the upgraded audio system instead. It’s now using an Alpine head unit for better audio quality, and device connectivity. For £59,500, this comes as standard, along with plush floor mats, and a leather-lined glove compartment, reverse sensors and cruise control.
