Chinese carmaker Dongfeng has published photos of its new sedan, which it calls the Number 1. The Number 1 was first previewed during the 2014 Beijing Auto Show, and it would seem as if very little has changed since its initial showing. The design is very continental with clean, straight lines all around. Quite honestly, it’s easy to mistake the Number 1 for a German sedan, especially from its profile shot.
The biggest giveaway would be the front bumper mounted lights that don’t quite gel with the tinted headlamps and otherwise mature look of the car. Speaking of headlamps, it appears as though the ones featured on the Dongfeng are LED projectors, which adds a touch of modernity to the look and tech. Overall, a thoroughly handsome package, and a reminder that the Chinese car industry is capable of some rather promising designs of their own.
Given Dongfeng’s partnership with PSA Peugeot Citroen, it’s no surprise that the Number 1 uses a French platform. It’s the same one that the French conglomerate uses to produce its Citroen C5 and Peugeot 508. Reports indicate that many of the DongFeng Number 1’s parts will be from the out-of-production C6. Engines are also PSA-sourced, with either a 200 hp 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol or a less powerful 2-litre N.A. available.
