Having just beaten the Mustang and Passat to the World Car of the Year Award at the New York Auto Show, the Mercedes W205 C-Class is reportedly being made more accessible with a smaller powerplant and simpler gearbox.
Dubbed the C160, it will come with an in-line 4 cylinder petrol engine. It’s still a 1.6 litre, like in the C180, but it will develop 27 hp less power than the engine found there, giving it a power rating of 129 hp. The C160 will be a true base-model, with Mercedes only planning to offer the car with a six-speed manual gearbox instead of the 7G-TRONIC.
The C160, in sedan guise, will start at 31,683 euros while the wagon is expected to be a couple of thousand euros more than that. Mercedes will start taking orders for the car this week in Europe at least, with deliveries scheduled to begin in June. By then, you can expect Mercedes to announce a convertible variant of the popular new C-Class.
