We’re big fans of the Ford Mondeo. The previous generation was a car that punched far above it’s weight, taking the fight out of the D-Segment and heading straight for the full on luxury cars. It excelled in both comfort and dynamics, with the only lacking being interior design.
But with this new generation, Ford is poised to have a real giant-killer. It’s coming to Malaysia with the same 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine that we know and love, in the same 240 PS/345 Nm state of tune, and a 6-speed SelectShift dual-clutch transmission. While the select shift has a clunky manual selector mode, the Mondeo comes with paddle shifters to make shifting an easy task.
It will also sport the new SYNC 2 system which we saw recently on the facelifted Ranger and the all-new Everest. The Mondeo may be the first model in our country to sport the SYNC 2 system if it is imported before the two powerhouses. Adaptive Cruise Control will be packaged with the model, which vastly improves the functionality of the Mondeo with this generation.Seven airbags are said to be standard, along with electronic stability and traction control systems.
The Mondeo is now available for preview at various roadshows between the 1st and 5th of April. In addition to the event at Bangsar Shopping Centre from 1 to 5 April, it will be showcased at events throughout Klang Valley, with bookings taken and test-drives available on:
- 22-26 April: Desa Park City
- 6-10 May: Setia City Mall
Pricing for this model is estimated to be around RM 203,800, quite a bargain if you’re looking for a D-Segment car that can stick it to the Germans.
