In a recent Investor Statement from the Volkswagen Group – buried between a lot of boring financial stats and fluff – was the announcement that Porsche would be releasing a new Boxster Spyder this year. This new model will arrive on the scene with 49 other replacements, successors and upgrades from the automobile conglomerate this year.
Porsche hasn’t yet provided any other details regarding the new Spyder’s spec, but from how the current model was positioned, a few things can be inferred. In all likelihood the car will be a bit more barebones to shed weight. The last time Porsche did this, they even gave up door handles to achieve the 1275kg weight of the car.
What Porsche didn’t have to think about the last time around though was a Boxster GTS in the line-up. The GTS already does a most of what the last Spyder was designed to do – outperform the Boxster S, so it will be interesting to see what its new role will be. It’s a shame nothing was revealed about that car but regardless, we can’t wait to see what Porsche has in store.
